The TIP Strategy that will form the basis for a new economic development strategy designed to take our region through the next decade identifies the key forces that will drive the growth of 21st Century jobs by its initials, “Talent, Innovation, and Place.”
The critical area of talent development lies beneath the push to raise education attainment. As the economy begins to recover, the issue of how to foster more growth of 21st Century jobs comes to the fore. Innovation is one key answer that many economists believe will prove critical to the overall recovery in the United States.
How does a region foster more innovation? One answer can be experienced first hand in Louisville later this month when the “Idea Festival” brings together cutting-edge thinkers from many fields to our town for five days of lectures, stimulating conversation and just plain fun.
Researchers like Andrew Hargadon from the University of California Davis, who study how innovation occurs, have concluded that, “innovation comes not from new ideas but from connections between ideas.” Those are the sorts of connections that will be available for the taking in downtown Louisville from Sept. 23-26, creating a swirl of insights and nuggets from many fields that anyone interested in innovation – in business or any other sector – can dip into. Check it out at www.ideafestival.com -- many events are free.
