“We continue to build too many of our communities – physically, economically, and socially – on an outdated set of beliefs,” according to CEOs for Cities, a network that includes elected leaders, corporate leaders, university presidents and foundation executives from across the country.

“This is expensive, wasteful, and puts us way overdue for a new version of the American Dream.

That’s why CEOs for Cities recently launched what it's calling the US Initiative with the goal to “bring into very clear focus how communities can deliver on five big (very big) ambitions that, together, can define a new American Dream.”

The five ambitions set forth by the group are:

  • Opportunity:  "We will develop all of our talent and put all of our talent to work."
  • Livability:  "We will all have access to beauty and nature every day."
  • Connectivity:  "We can meet our daily needs without owning a car."
  • Community:  "We can all participate in a robust public life."
  • Optimism:  "We believe that the future can be better for each of us and all of us."

Talk about the One Dream that we can all get behind -- those ambitions probably sum up what many of us would share as goals for improving the Quality of Place that distinguishes Louisville.  And they would, in fact, make it a more Competitive City.

Join us to hear Coletta talk about that the US Initiative and the other work of CEOs for Cities on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Conference Theatre of the International Convention Center.
