Brookings Institution report analyzes the location of U.S. export production

Jul. 26, 2010

The Louisville Metropolitan Area, which encompasses thirteen counties, including Jefferson County, ranks 44th out of the 100 largest metro areas in the United States and 7th out of fifteen peer metro areas on the measure of value of exports produced (see chart below).  The Brookings' report also identifies the metropolitan area's largest export industry as "transportation equipment," a category that includes manufactured aircraft and aircraft parts, automobiles, and ships, and one that has been the largest United States' exports category since 2002.

The Courier-Journal published an article on this topic, highlighting Indianapolis' ranking on this measure.  You may also read the full Brookings Institution Report to learn more.
